The local body tax (LBT) department chief of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC) will meet traders and citizens at four zonal offices every week to hear their grievances.
Assistant commissioner Yashwant Mane said he would be meeting traders on Monday at the zone A office in Nigdi. Similarly, he would be visiting zone B and D offices on Wednesday and zone C office at Nehrunagar on Thursday. "I will meet the traders, industrialists and other citizens to solve their problems regarding LBT payments."
The step is being taken to boost LBT collection, which is witnessing a shortfall of nearly Rs 300 crore as compared to the total collection of octroi in the last financial year.
The building permission and property tax departments have been directed to raise their income by Rs 150 crore each to reduce the deficit.
As many as 31,761 traders have registered for LBT, so far. Out of which, 14,126 deemed registration holders have taken user IDs provided by the department for LBT payment. It is mandatory for registered traders to display LBT certificates at a visible location, therefore, the civic body has started a drive to give certificates to them from December 1, 2013. The registered traders have to pay LBT for the previous month before 20th of next month.
The department has started conducting meeting traders to redress their grievances about LBT payment from December 15, 2013 onwards. The computerized data of the traders is updated and they are being guided about LBT payment.
Mane said the department has completed hearing of 1,636 traders till now.
Meanwhile, the PCMC conducted raids on shops of 10 traders who had evaded LBT payment of Rs 37.55 lakh in December. He said strict action will be taken against errant traders. "We have prepared a list of traders who are believed to be evading LBT. We have submitted it to the state government and sought its approval for conducting raids on them," said Mane.
